We have made some good preparation progress. The 4 motorcycles fit in the van with room to spare.
We have taken delivery of bike to bike radios to communicate on the road.
Lorenz has been busy with the van, replacing the cam belt and providing comfort for the passenger.
I have new waterproof luggage and have decided to invest in travelling clothing from Rohan which I know to be excellent.
It's difficult to know what clothing to take as we shall be travelling high mountain passes and low deserts
and all places in between.

Below you can see the machines that I will be using on my trip.
They are -
Suzuki DR350 - the mountain goat. Fun where ever you take it.
Honda XLV600 Transalp - The do it all machine - Good on the motorway
and good on less challenging tracks.
Lorenz has a very similar pair
The question we now need to answer is - Will all 4 machines fit in a Transit van?

Plans have been firmed up a little. I am to travel with my motorcycle Buddy Lorenz Howitz.
We have known each other for less than two years and seem to rattle along with each other
pretty nicely. Time will tell.
The difficult part of any motorcycle adventure in Spain is the getting there and so we have
decided to take the soft but sensible option of transporting the bikes to Spain in a van.
There are several benefits to this arrangement which are -
1, The most boring and probably
wettest part of the journey will be done in relative comfort
2, We will have the luxury of a van roof over our heads should things go odd shaped.
3. It gives us the chance to take 2 motorcycles each, A dirt bike for skidding around
mountain tracks and a more road biased machine for more road biased riding.
4. We hope to plant the van somewhere secure and thus have a base-camp should
we need it. Tools and extra kit can be garaged there.

Our initial idea was to voyage from Plymouth to Santander in the north of Spain.
Doing a little research led me to realise that with Channel crossings being comparitively
inexpensive, the money saved by doing a Channel crossing would fund an enjoyable
French add-on to our adventure. This is now a firm plan.

I have decided to allow myself four weeks to do this. See what happens. See if it brings the fulfillment that I imagine it will. Also to see how my physical condition copes with it because I don't expect it to be an easy ride.
